Share on Tumblr Buy a PrintI have been working on this painting since October, and it has been an amazing learning experience for me. This painting has changed quite a bit over the months, you can see an earlier version here on my tumblr.
The idea I was working with was a mermaid that lived deep in the ocean, and had characteristics of other deep sea creatures. Such as being semi transparent, very gaunt, and with little colour. I had originally intended to convey that the mermaid had found a long lost diver's helmet, but as the painting progressed and the mermaid started to look more sinister the feedback I've received is more along the lines of her taking the helmet off a diver.
I have two paintings that I am nearly finished with, so I will hopefully be posting them soon.

She looks beautiful only question I have is does she have bioluminescent bits. She does indeed look a little sinister just cause it’s really dark down unda but to me her expression looks slightly alarmed as if some snapped a picture of her unexpectedly. So I think she just found a really old helmet as we have much more modern diving gear now a days it’s easy to think she just dug up some old junk. I love her extended tail and how thin she’s is the bit where you can see her ribs and spine was awesome too.
