Super belated birthday gift for my lovely friend shusical of our cervine girl designs. I started working on this back in August so parts of the painting are a little bit wonky. I really enjoy painting enchanted forests!
Ohhhh, I just love it when you so magical pictures like these! They're my absolute favorite! <333333 It's so bright and colorful! And the cervine girls are as adorable as ever! It's cute to see these two together! >3< <333
You can put such wonderful energy and colour into your pictures without any sort of clutter, and the general cohesive feel of the entire piece is amazing! Softer, more pastelly colours I thought was very hard to pull off, especially in a style where you still imbue the picture with depth and a very clear 3D sense without it seeming odd or forced but you do it so well. I love staring just beyond the two, into the fading trees. That effect is supercool and the subtle swirls and markings everywhere just add to the magic of the piece.
There is a real sense of scale here too and how little Penny and Julie are compared to the great forest. I agree magical forests are great to paint and the mushrooms are adorable ahaaa. *u* omd hiru you're wonderful shameless advertisement of me I'm just curls up what to doo ilu ;u; ♥
Wahh first off eeekk I'm not supposed to be on dA right now actually since it's about midterms time AHAHHAA but I popped on because... y'know, why not LOL I-i think it kind of always happens around busy test season when you wanna go on the most lol;;; AHHH ; O ; And this was sitting there and caught my eye and first thing I thought was, WAHHH a complete Hiru pieceee ; O ;--- and then I looked at it closer and was like-- EEEEEEKKK QQQ O QQQ
EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKK ; OOOOOOOOOO ;
AHHHHHH <333 This made my day so much oh my goodnesssss ;www; <3 Oooo ohh my goodness ;-; AHAHHA, sorry I have no idea where to start AHAHHAA OH I'm so surprised AHHHH ; O ; It's such a lovely piece that I hadn't expected at all at this super random time (well, kinda around midterms time when you're lying in a pile of books you don't really ever expect anything AHHAHA;;;) ohh awww ;uuu; Thank you Hiruuu * U * <33 And AHHH, what thank you eee eeee ee thank you for the thank you, you're very welcome ;uuu;! <33 *Q* I think what really caught my eye the most is how fantasy-ish the colour scheme is, I don't know how you do it but you always have a really coherent and... comfortable? AHHAHA colour scheme! Such a fresh lovely green and... fresh... lovely... blue? AHAHHA, I am not sure if that makes sense at all but those it's such a lovely colour scheme ;-; <33 The mushrooms are a lively touch as well and EEK, HOW DID YOU KNOW I LOVE MUSHROOMS?! AHAHHA >U< <33 OOoo goodness I love the little backlights (it always - makes things look a bit more magical ahh?) and expressions ohh the little dance-y pose of your character (Pentello? W-WAHH THAT IS A CUTE NAME ;OOO;) ;-; <333 Even the flouncy mushrooms LOOOL THEY ARE SO CUTE and little patches of puffy grass ;-; <33 Oh eeeek this is so sweet ah yes our bbys can take a walk in such a tranquil looking forest... ahhhhhh I want to join them AHAHAHA ; O ; <333 I love love the colour scheme in this and how it looks like eveyrthing is glowing! *O* I LOVE enchanted forests too eeeeeEEEEE I want to touch the trees and the swirly pattern eee *O* *O* <3333 There's something equally enchanting about enchanted forests, and paintings of them (w..well if enchanted forests were real I-- believe they would be "equally enchanting" too? ;ooo;) AAAWWW <3333333 I can't stop staring aaahhhh, this is so beautiful I don't know what to say AHAHHA ;-;; I do love the little changes you've made to Julie's outfit, the capelet design is such a cute one I never thought of adding like.. like... a border on it or having it shaped! eekkk *O* The details on your sweetie are adorable as well, I love the colour scheme aHHHH they are just too precious walking together ;wwwww; <333 I love how both of them kind of have a similar silhouette!! It's really cute AHAHHA >U< <33
I always love your paintings a lot since I think your style naturally fit into it really well, sort of like... like paintings you can put on a wall? OHHH ; O ; T-THAT IS A WONDERFUL IDEA ; O ; Is there any way I could have this as a regular sized print I can put on my wall? I can pay for printing, shipping, and any handling fees ;www; OHH THIS WOULD BE SO CUTE ;-; I-i think I should start getting prints of the gift arts I receive, sometimes I just open my folder and look at all of them but having them around you is kind of like - oohhh I don't know, I just feel like you can really be around them more? ;www; EEEE but it's totally okay if not! I am not even sure how to ship posters AHAHA >O<! WAHHHHH ;w; Thank you so much ;;;-;;; <3333 EEEEKKK EEEKK I love how much variety you can do in your paintings, it's really a joy to see and incredibly inspirational, as always. AHhhh ah thank you so much Hiruuu ;uuuuu; <333!!! EEEK I know I sound super repetitive (and probably cliche as well AHAHHAA) but ohh I love this a lot and I love the things you do. Thank you so much for being you, as well, and doing the things you love. You're always a big big inspiration to me, just seeing the things you do, thank you thank you thank you so much for that! ;u; >U< On a somewhat related note I found the composition of this piece very-- eee eee interesting because the picture I'm (still...lol) working on for your birthday is actually kind of similar! AHAHA >U<
Uuuuwuuwuu I have to be off now but I just want to keep staring AHAHAH ; OOOOOO ; <333 EEEEE, thank you so much! ; O ; <3333 I hope you're doing well in school AHAHAH and not procrastinating like me eeeeeekkkk >O< HAHAHA <33333
Oops, as for the print, if I were to email you the full sized image would you be able to print it off yourself? It would be less expensive for you, there would be less chance of it getting damaged in the mail, and post confuses me still. If you lived closer I could print out a nice big one for cheap at my school and bring it to you. ;u;
I love mushrooms and forests too! I'm pretty sure we've rambled to each other about our love of forests and mushrooms on Skype before. xD I went through so many ideas for this, first it was a headshot of Julie, then it was Julie riding a giant bunny and somehow that transformed into her walking in a forest and then Pentello got added in there too since I thought they matched! The trees also at one point had faces, then they were covered in carved runes, then the runes were glowing, then there were fireflies everywhere. I'm usually more decisive but I just kept wanting to add more and more to this. ;u;
Aha I'm pretty much equally busy all the time so I have no concept of what midterm week is like Dx they space everything out very well but I'm always working on atleast a project, essay, or studying. Luckily everything I'm doing is super fun. I just made a full dress out of book pages, and I'm working now on building a wood treasure chest trunk. (My painting class has a 3D/sculpture component but our teacher's awesome and all the projects are very fun.)
AHHHHH, sorry for such a late reply! LOOOL IT'S LIKE A MONTH LATER HAHAAA
EEEE YES <333 I don't know what's exactly so enchanting about them, I guess it might be how much variety they can have in their designs and they can easily look both fantasy-like and real. Does that make sense? AAHA EEEEKK my goodness, how adorable! AHAHA what a journney ; U ;!! I think with painting the process is probably the most fun part when you get to see how much it evolves over time, since it's so easy to add things to it and take things away ; U ;;
<3333 oh it's good though! I tend to have spikes in busy-ness and then periods of nothingness AHAHAHA, so it's why I have a tendency to disappear when things get busy ;___; Like exams are really really near now and I kind of had to have a hiatus away from dA because of school lately (LIKE, A FEW MONTHS?! LOL ;_______;) wahhh!! EEEEEEE WOW MY GOODNESS that sounds super super fun AOOO WOOOOW *OOOOOOO* how did your treasure chest trunk go??! (since, I'm guessing you probably finished it by the time I've replied HAHAHA)? ; U ; OOOO, I thought the art school stuff was mostly 2d if you did illustration things, but it sounds really comprehensive and (i know I already said it, but x'D) FUN that you cover a lot of things *OOO* <3333 W-wait AHA OH you just explained it ;uu;; Oopss HAHAHAA but hhh EEEEE, I've always loved crafty things and while I've never made a treasure chest or a page dress those are really inspiring to even hear about.
EEEKK thank youu!! <3333333 I hope I did okay, one of my classes is super behind on scores and I just... AHAHA ;____;; It's almost time for the next exams really ; O ;
*UUU* <33333 I'm going to reply to your other comment here because... I can AHAHAHA: Wahhh I can get it printed yes! ;u; There's a lovely cheap printing place nearby that does nice quality prints. Ahh that would be super super cute but eeeeekkk thank you! ; O ; I can't wait *Q* I love big printed pictures and I should probably go chase some others for printout versions before I forget haha but aww <3333 I'll note you my email!!
Thanks! Actually this isn't related to #MemoirduLune. As for the group we're not really sure. We pretty much have everything ready for it, but myself and =wispywaffle who created the group don't have enough free time to manage it right now. She's in an intensive IB program and I'm at uni, however we do both still really want to open it up. c:
Thank you c: I actually paint everything on one layer in Sai with the brush tool because of it's lovely blending capabilities. I get more control and pressure sensitivity with the brush than the water tool. At the very end though, just with this piece, I did use the water tool to brush a little bit of lighter blue over the trees in the distance to give them a more watery feel and make them less flat.
You're very welcome wow, i usually have at least 60 layers, but yeah, mine are cel shaded also, i can only wish i could do it like you But i totally get it, i do all on one layer when i do portraits,then it's really good to use the brush. the trees look fantastic
I used to cell shade too and when I first started trying to paint last year I used about 200+ layers and gradually started using less as I got more comfortable. I'd say the more layers you use, the easier is is to keep the image clean and polished looking. =)
I used to use that many layers too, hell i still have that many layers if i do more characters, but on my chibi drawings i have like 40 layers. I started using it about 2 years ago, love it i guess i should try do draw them on less layers too, i should practice
